Lisanne’s flower of expression

The Western Sky Café was packed with fans and well-wishers for Lisanne Cole, a performance artist and musician celebrating the release of her new CD, “Life, In Full Bloom,” Saturday. With all the tables and chairs filled, Lisanne commanded the stage. She had our complete attention as she performed her original songs and created soundscapes with a handful of instruments and her need to communicate joy for a life in full bloom.
For Lisanne, life and art are about “constantly expressing ourselves and remembering who we are.”
Being creative and expressing herself has been a part of who Lisanne is. A native of the southwestern part of England, she made life an adventure. From making pies in Spain to DJ-ing on a Greek cruise ship in the 1970s, Lisanne knows how to live a creative life.She studied acting in Los Angeles and was in her first film, “Apartment Zero,” with Colin Firth, in Argentina. She has read for Books on Tape and has “always” been involved in theater – but last October, she said, when she did a performance for family and friends, she felt a shift or a change.
“I felt I was finally moving forward,” she said.
“My intention is about offering something – being an instrument of peace – to be a part of the healing for the world and of my own healing. It’s a way to connect with the true source.Many of Lisanne’s decisions about art and music are spirit guided. You can tell this by listening to her music. The songs on “Life, in Full Bloom,” are inspirational in the best sense. There’s no stilted Kumbaya sentiments crammed into progressive-sounding chord arrangements. These songs are distilled and quintessentially inspirational by their very nature.
Another important decision she’s made is to be alone and independent with her art and to look within for solutions. Even though it’s a little scary to be up on stage all alone, it’s freeing in a way.
“I can do it all by myself if the band doesn’t show up,” she said, joking. “I have to be growing and learning. ‘Limitations are our blessings’,” she said, quoting her friend, Jim Branca. “We learn by overcoming those limitations and make something new from the learning process.”
Something new is what her songs are about. They are about love, life and dreams. They are about new frontiers for the soul and for understanding the voices heard within.
Lisanne’s music doesn’t sound like any one you’ve ever heard of – except Lisanne. Her music is like an ever-unfolding flower -- a life, in full bloom.
